COPPERTAIL
gle read or write byte protocol, a separate convention
must be used to access the multiple 256-byte blocks of
registers. This convention contains a configuration
record pointer setup transfer, prior to the actual write
or read byte transfer. The configuration record pointer
setup is a write byte transfer to setup the configuration
record pointer that is used to select the configuration
record that will be accessed. The write or read to the
actual register in the selected configuration record is
performed following this configuration record setup.
To select the configuration record pointer, a write byte
transfer to register 00h with the appropriate bits set
will select the configuration record that is to be
accessed.
When a Write Byte or Read Byte Protocol transfer on
the SMB bus is attempted by a SMB bus master to the
SMB Slave, the slave address field is the address of the
Slave device that will respond to the address presented
on the SMB bus. The command field is the address of
the register inside of the responding Slave device.
When the command field (register address) is set to
00h and the SMB Protocol is a Write Byte to the SMB
Slave, the data field will be used to setup the Configu-
ration Record Pointer Register. All other SMB Slave
command field values correspond to the byte register
in the chosen Configuration Record that will be read or

DESCRIPTION
00h WRITE
Update Configuration Record Pointer. The next read/write will access the configura-
tion record indicated by the Configuration Record Pointer value in the Register Data
field. Legal values for the Configuration Record Field are:
00h: PCI-LPC Bridge.
10h: SMBus Controller function.
20h: Micron Reserved.
30h: IDE Controller function.
40h: USB Controller function.
00h READ
The Configuration register address to be read or written in the Configuration
Record selected by the Configuration Record Pointer.
01h-FFh
The Configuration register address to be read or written in the Configuration
Record selected by the Configuration Record Pointer.
