According to CCITT recommendation I.430 a multi-frame (= 20 consecutive S/T frames)
provides an additional communication channel between TE and LT or LT and CO via S
and Q bits. Refer to
figure 28.
Two S channels (S1 and S2) can be used by the QUAT-S for communication in data
downstream direction.
The Q channel bits are defined to be the bits in the F
A
bit position and are used for
communication in data upstream direction.
