The3 VoltIntel
Advanced+Stacked-CSParchitectureincludesa128-bitprotectionregisterthan
canbeusedtoincreasethesecurityofasystemdesign.Forexample,thenumbercontainedinthe
protectionregistercanbeusedto“mate”theflashcomponentwithothersystemcomponentssuch
astheCPUorASIC,preventingdevicesubstitution.
3.8.1
ReadingtheProtectionRegister
Theprotectionregisterisreadintheconfigurationreadmode.Thedeviceisswitchedtothismode
bywritingtheReadConfigurationcommand(90h).Onceinthismode,readcyclesfromaddresses
showninAppendixEretrievethespecifiedinformation.Toreturntoreadarraymode,writethe
ReadArraycommand(FFh).

ProgrammingtheProtectionRegister(C0h)
Theprotectionregisterbitsareprogrammedusingthetwo-cycleProtectionProgramcommand.
The64-bitnumberisprogrammed16bitsatatimeforword-wideparts.FirstwritetheProtection
ProgramSetupcommand,C0h.Thenextwritetothedevicewilllatchinaddressanddataand
programthespecifiedlocation.TheallowableaddressesareshowninAppendixE.See
Figure20,
