impedanceuntilanewconversionisstarted.SDOsends
out12/14bitsin2’scomplementformatintheoutputdata
streambeginningatthethirdrisingedgeofSCKafterthe
risingedgeofCONV.SDOisalwaysinhighimpedance
modewhenitisnotsendingoutdatabits.Pleasenote
thedelayspecificationfromSCKtoavalidSDO.SDOis
alwaysguaranteedtobevalidbythenextrisingedgeof
SCK.The16-bitoutputdatastreamiscompatiblewiththe
16-bitor32-bitserialportofmostprocessors.
HARDWARE INTERFACE TO TMS320C54x
TheLTC1403-1/LTC1403A-1isaserialoutputADCwhose
interface has been designed for high speed buffered
serial ports in fast digital signal processors (DSPs).
Figure 8 shows an example of this interface using a
TMS320C54X.
ThebufferedserialportintheTMS320C54xhasdirect
accesstoa2kBsegmentofmemory.TheADC’sserial
datacanbecollectedintwoalternating1kBsegments,
inrealtime,atthefull2.8Mspsconversionrateofthe
LTC1403-1/LTC1403A-1. The DSP assembly code sets
framesyncmodeattheBFSRpintoacceptanexternal
positivegoingpulseandtheserialclockattheBCLKRpin
toacceptanexternalpositiveedgeclock.Buffersnear
theLTC1403-1/LTC1403A-1maybeaddedtodrivelong
trackstotheDSPtopreventcorruptionofthesignalto
LTC1403-1/LTC1403A-1.Thisconfigurationisadequateto
traverseatypicalsystemboard,butsourceresistorsatthe
bufferoutputsandterminationresistorsattheDSP,may
beneededtomatchthecharacteristicimpedanceofvery
longtransmissionlines.IfyouneedtoterminatetheSDO
transmissionline,bufferitfirstwithoneortwo74ACTxx
gates.TheTTLthresholdinputsoftheDSPportrespond
properlytothe3VswingfromtheSDOpin.
