Inparticular,careshouldbetakennottorunanydigital
trackalongsideananalogsignaltrack.Ifoptimumphase
matchbetweentheinputsisdesired,thelengthofthetwo
inputwiresshouldbekeptmatched.
High quality tantalum and ceramic bypass capacitors
shouldbeusedattheVDDandVREFpinsasshowninthe
BlockDiagramonthefirstpageofthisdatasheet.Forop-
timumperformance,a10FsurfacemountAVXcapacitor
witha0.1FceramicisrecommendedfortheVDDandVREF
pins.Alternatively,10Fceramicchipcapacitorssuchas

(Pins 4, 5, 6 and exposed pad) to the power supply
shouldbelowimpedancefornoisefreeoperation.Digital
circuitrygroundsmustbeconnectedtothedigitalsupply
common.InapplicationswheretheADCdataoutputsand
controlsignals areconnectedtoacontinuously active
microprocessorbus,itispossibletogeterrorsinthe
conversionresults.Theseerrorsareduetofeedthrough
fromthemicroprocessortothesuccessiveapproximation
comparator.Theproblemcanbeeliminatedbyforcingthe
microprocessorintoaWaitstateduringconversionorby
usingthree-statebufferstoisolatetheADCdatabus.

TworisingedgesatCONV,withoutanyinterveningris-
ingedgesatSCK,puttheLTC1403-1/LTC1403A-1inNap
modeandthepowerdraindropsfrom14mWto6mW.
The internal reference remains powered in Nap mode.
