CommunicationsSystem(PCS) bands.AsadualmodeIC, itcanbeusedeitherin
CDMAmodeorAdvancedMobilePhoneSystem(AMPS) mode.
Thedeviceincorporatesallthecomponentsrequiredtoimplementthecomplete
Dual-Band, Tri-Modereceiverfrontend;fromtheLowNoiseAmplifier(LNA) toIn-
PhaseandQuadrature(I/Q) demodulatorstages, exceptforfiltersandthePCS
LNA.InadditiontothecellularbandLNA, thereareseparatemxersfortheAMPS,
CDMA800MHz, andPCS bands.TheAMPS mxeroutputissingle-ended,
followedbytheexternalAMPS IntermediateFrequency(IF) SurfaceAcousticWave
(SAW) filter.ThecellularandPCS mxershavebalancedoutputsforexternalIF
SAWfiltering.TheIF SAWfiltersarefollowedbyaVariableGainAmplifier(VGA)
andanI/Qdemodulator.
TheIF filteroutputsarebufferedattheinputoftheVGA, whichareenabled
dependingontheselectedmode.TheVGAhasadynamcrangegreaterthan90
dB, andcommonstageforallmodes.
Therearetwoon-chipVeryHighFrequency(VHF) VoltageControlOscillators
(VCO), whichoperatewithexternaltankcircuitstoprovidetheLocalOscillator(LO)
signalsfortheI/Qdemodulator.
TheNoiseFigure, Gain, andThirdOrderInputInterceptPoint(IIP3) ofeachstage
inthereceiverchipareoptimzedtomeetthesystemrequirementsforAMPS and
CDMAmodesasperTIA/EIA-98-BandANSIJ-STD-018(PCS).Employingsilicon
bipolartechnology, theASIC isdesignedforhighperformancewithahighlevel
integrationandacost-effectiveRF solutionfordual-band, tri-modephone
application.
