The PWM Duty Setting
The PWM Duty can be selected from 32 stages between 51.6% and 100%.
Power-saving and efficient drive are possible by Duty control.
Also, the coil current value at Slow Decay is determined by the following formula.
(Coil current value) =
(Motor supply voltage VB1)
× (DUTY)
(Coil resistance RL)(*)
(*) : Measurements are subject to the influence of ON resistance of the output transistor and internal resistance of the
measuring system.
DC Motor Drive Method (Channel 1)
The channel 1 is a PWM control output. The Duty pulse from 51.6 to 100% is generated based on the pulse generated in
the pulse generation circuit in IC. Therefore, the PWM signal is output by the H bridge circuit.
The Duty setting is performed by serial communications. And, the PWM frequency can be adjusted in four levels.
In addition, the PWM mode can be set with either Fast Decay or Slow Decay by serial communications.
When channel 1 is used to drive a DC motor, the drive polarity is set by serial communications.
As for the brake, setting by serial communications and the BRK pin control are possible.
PWM Control Settings (Channels 2 and 3)
The channels 2 and 3 are the PWM control outputs.
Various setting of the PWM signal is performed by serial communications, along with channel 1.
The PWM frequency is common to channel 1.
Voice Coil Motor Drive Method (Channels 4 and 5)
The channels 4 and 5 are constant current outputs. The OUT8 pin is shared by the channels 4 and 5.
However, both channels can not be driven at the same time.
When channel 4 is used to drive a voice coil motor, the drive polarity is set by serial communications.
On the other hand, when channel 5 is used to drive a voice coil motor, 1 line control of the IN51/ENA pin by
combination of the serial communications can be used to set the drive polarity.
Setting Procedure :
(1) The drive polarity is set by the serial data (D0/1/2/3/4/5/6/7 = 1/0/0/1/
#/#/*/*).
(3) The drive on/off state is set by the input signal (output enable signal) of the IN51/ENA pin.
Constant Current Control Settings (Channels 4 and 5)
The constant current settings for the channels 4 and 5 are set by the serial communications.
The output constant current value is determined by the constant current reference voltage set with the serial data and the
resistor (RF) connected between the RF1 pin and GND.
The following formula can be used to calculate the output constant current.
(output constant current) = (constant current reference voltage) / (value of the resistance RF)
In addition, the resistor (RF) is shared by the channels 4 and 5. So, if a different current value is set in the channels 4 and
5, it is necessary to switch each reference voltage by the serial communications.
