MULTI-MIX
FILTERS
Merrimac’s FBGE Series bandpass filters combine the features of Merrimac’s patented Multi-Mix
multilayer fabrication technology with the ability to operate to three times their center frequency without
reentrant spurious passbands. They typically offer better overall performance than filters designed to the
same specification with conventional filter fabrication techniques.
The benefits of Merrimac FBGE filters include:
Available with center frequencies from 500 MHz to 40 GHz
Excellent replacement for expensive, bulky waveguide cavity filters
Typically smaller than filters with the same
specifications designed with any competing technology
1-dB bandwidths to 2% and up
Can be integrated with other components in a compact enclosure to form a
complete passive or active subsystem.
Stable over temperature, from -55o to +125o C
Inherently low electromagnetic emissions
Handle high power with proper thermal relief.
DESIGNED FOR FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION
Merrimac’s FBGE filters are designed and fabricated in Merrimac’s, patented, Multi-Mix
manufacturing process. This multilayer planar manufacturing technique allows components as well as
multifunctional “supercomponents” to be realized that are smaller, lighter, and less expensive to
manufacture than with traditional microwave manufacturing methods. The intrinsic properties of Multi-Mix
facilitate the integration of embedded semiconductors, MMICs, etched resistors, circuit patterns, and
plated-through via holes in a surface-mount module that requires no additional packaging and can be
placed on the circuit board automatically with standard pick-and-place equipment.
The Multi-Mix process is based on fluoropolymer composite substrates that are fusion-bonded together
into a multilayer structure. The fusion process provides a homogeneous dielectric medium that yields
superior electrical performance at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies.
CUSTOM FILTERS IN RECORD TIME
Since almost all filter specifications are unique, speed is essential in meeting customer needs. Multi-Mix
excels in this environment because it reduces the time required to produce working designs from a set of
customer specifications. Merrimac can design filters with complex specifications and bring them to the
production stage much faster than the industry norm.
