The
BCM6410
and
BCM6420
devices are the first of
Broadcom’s new BladeRunner generation of DSL chipsets
designed for functionally rich DSLAM, ngDLC and MDU/MTU
systems. The BladeRunner chipset provides a flexible, low-
power, low-cost two-chip xDSL solution across all standards.
Optimized for xDSL algorithms, the
BCM6410
’s fully-
programmable digital design serves as a platform for a low-
power and high-density digital transceiver IC. It also supports
innovative system-wide power management, interoperability, and
standards support algorithms. For additional bill of material
savings, the firmware and data-buffering memory is on-chip with
no external RAM devices required.
The companion
BCM6420
uses state-of-the-art ADC/DAC
technology on a mixed-signal IC to deliver a high channel
density at low power. The efficiency of the
BCM6420
is
maximized through design optimizations based on the
capabilities of the
BCM6410
device.
The chipset functionality is accessed via a flexible messaging
interface supported via both the local processor port connection
and over more efficient proprietary paths. ADSL traffic is
delivered to the host system using a Level II UTOPIA bus
(extended to support 127 PHYs).
The BladeRunner chipset works with a wide range of simple,
low-cost, class A/B third part line driver devices. The unmatched
performance and power dissipation of the BladeRunner chipset is
completely independent of the line driver providing design
freedom, low cost, low complexity and high performance on a
design-by-design basis.
The chipset is accompanied by standards-compliant firmware
supporting the full range of ADSL deployments: ANSI T1.413
issue 2, ITU G.992.1 (G.dmt), and ITU G.992.2 (G.lite).
Multimode and dual-latency ADSL operation are also supported.
These industry-leading capabilities, combined with the flexible
and feature-rich interface make the BladeRunner chipset a
powerful solution.
