Overview
The
BCM3401
is the RF front-end companion chip to the
BCM3415, containing an LNA and the RF AGC. This two-chip
solution is a highly integrated silicon tuner.
The
BCM3401
and BCM3415 are specifically designed to work
with Broadcom’s industry leading BCM3350, BCM3345 and
BCM3250 single-chip cable modems, This two-chip solution
supports both 64 and 256-QAM digital cable modem applications.
Technical Brief
The Broadcom
BCM3401
is a complete RF front-end chip for use
in cable tuner applications. An RF AGC circuit provides a
broadband input match to reduce return losses over the entire
50–860 MHz frequency band.
The AGC also allows the tuner to compensate for variations in
received signal strength over a 30-dB range. The LNA provides
15 dB of gain over the band and converts the signal to differential
outputs for optimal drive to the BCM3415 and to eliminate
unwanted noise pick-up.
