The Broadcom
BCM3310
provides a full MIPS 1-compatible
R3000 processor, which operates at 80 MHz (85 DMIPS) with
4K 2-way set associative I-cache and 1K 2-way set associative
D-cache. With its integrated peripherals, the
BCM3310
provides
a highly integrated companion device for high-speed data
communication applications. Specific peripherals integrated in
the
BCM3310
include:
32-bit/33 MHz Master-mode DMA PCI interface, which
supports three modes of operation that may be used by a
software driver on the host PC to send packets to and receive
packets from a cable modem. An initiator (bus master) mode,
a target interrupt, and a target polled mode, may be used
independently for each datapath.
10/100 Ethernet MAC with Media Independent Interface
(MII), separate transmit and receive FIFOs, transmit and
receive buffer management, MIB statistics, full duplex follow
control, internal 64-entry CAM for filtering multicast
addresses, full and half duplex operation and automatic CRC
checking and generation.
IPSec module with single-DES (CBC and ECB modes),
triple-DES (CBC and ECB modes), MD-5 and SHA
authentication in hardware providing support for application
in Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
TDM 4-wire serial interface with variable timeslots from
2-32, that can be assigned to 1 of 4 transparent input/output
channel controllers enabling support for up to 4 voice
channels or 1 video (384Kbs) and 1 voice channel.
Full-speed USB interface that is compliant with the USB 1.0
specification The interface supports concurrent operations of
control, bulk, isochronous and interrupt endpoints. It also
supports USB standard commands as well as class/vendor
specific commands. A built-in configuration RAM allows
flexible configuration of the device. The interface provides
both DMA and program I/O capability on the CPU bus for fast
and easy data access.
The
BCM3310
represents the first silicon solution to integrate all
the key peripheral functions of either an internal or external cable
modem into a single device with a powerful MIPS processor
thereby reducing the overall cost and complexity of cable modem
products.
